About Me

I'm a fun-loving girl who doesn't always know how to use her inside voice... or so I've heard. I'm a brunette, but if you ask any of my friends, I should have been blond. *shakes head* I'm going to college right now, and I thought I knew everything I wanted to do...only to find out I have no idea. I'm an outgoing girl and I have strong opinions about everything I care about. I am smart, an individual, and I like to just talk to people. I also like to take pictures...as many people in Denver may have noticed *nods* I'm very much into social activism and community work. The feeling I get after helping someone is so uplifting.

I see people around me who use their words to hurt people...whether accidental or not, and I try to find ways to be that support system people need. To be there for them, and not criticize them. There's already enough criticism and down-sizing. What we need more of are the people who do the little things to make someones day...to show them that it isn't just about the insecurities and the imperfections, but the fact that everyone is human.

I am big into music. I play the viola, and I love to sing. I know how to play other instruments, but not as passionately as the viola...and sometimes the cello. I also love to write. It's another way to get your story out, to be heard. Really, any form of art. I'm not GREAT at any of them, but I can still do enough to get my point out there. And it's about having fun when I do it. I don't have to be perfect at it.

I also like to read.... and I read exceptionally fast. I love to escape into another world where I don't have to do anything but follow the road the story takes you on. When I'm back in the real world, I take what I've read in little grains of salt, and implement themes I think are relevant... and I make a little addition the the person I am. I'm always growing, always learning.... oh, and always rambling. In case you hadn't already noticed that.

How I would like to change the world:

I would like to have world peace... *ahem*
Sorry, this wasn't the pageant, was it? *shakes head* I want to get others to be socially active. That's what I want to do to change the world. As one person, I can do my part to help make change, but it's going to take a lot of people to make a big difference. I think in the long run, if we can get more people to become socially aware and socially active,... thats half the battle.

I have a long list of the things I would like to change in the world, and you'd be reading them for days. I think I'll start by talking about one thing I'd like to change, and explain it. This will change periodically.....
-Homelessness Youth: I was once a teenager living on the streets. We were like family, camping out and having a grand old time... we lived in tents in a City park in Salem, Oregon. IT was fun, but I wanted more for myself. I didn't want to live the rest of my life sleeping in a tent and never able to really take a shower. I got out of it, and I made something of myself.... but I look back at Salem and I see some of the people I lived with or interacted with.... they are still in the same spot. I had people who supported me and helped me. Programs that were there for the right reasons. I want to get some programs out there that are there for the right reasons... Teens have their whole lives ahead of them, and I don't like seeing it wasted.

Tools I Have

As Sarah Said: MY tool is that I can take pictures with myself in them...and they look good even without me seeing where the camera is aiming. *nods*

Another tool I have is my voice. Nobody will know what you want to do, want to change, etc if you don't voice your opinion on it, and I think that my voice is my strongest tool.

I've also got the tool of music. I play the viola and I sing... and I am quite fond of the cello, too. It's got a gorgeous sound. And the violin, too.....any string instrument really, I love playing them all. But music is a good outlet for social change... just look at bands like Kanye West, Michael Franti, Common, The Flobots, etc... and even bands that don't sing about it... they still use their fame to get the word out there to their fans.

Another tool I have is my leadership skills and my compassion. I'm a strong leader, and I like to get things done. You have to be committed to something in order for it to get done right. But you also have to feel strongly about it. I've learned from experience that nothing you do feels the same if you don't give a damn about it. And the people or person you are helping can tell when you don't really care. Just giving a damn...just caring, even that's a big step in the right direction.

Creativity...I love to write, and I know to to express myself in words. Also, in drawings and in photography. Especially photography.

Enthusiasm for knowledge and learning
An Open mind: An open mind and enthusiasm for learning and knowledge both sit hand in hand. In my opinion, you can want to learn, but if you don't have an open mind to what people tell you, you'll only learn what you want to learn. The things people teach aren't always what you want to hear. Also, an open mind gives you a different way of seeing things, not just the way you normally see them.

Tools I Need

organization: I love to do my part, but I'm a frantic girl, and I am not the most organized of all people. It's something I need to learn.

Team Work: I sometimes get out of hand with the ideas I have, and I try to take over rather than letting everyone add their bit so that it becomes something even better. I am an individual, but I don't always know when to just participate rather than try to run the whole show on my own.
