I think Oscar brought up some very valid points. I believe that level of involvement from an outside agency should be sought only after diplomacy/mediation either fails or ceases to be effective. At the end of the day, the child's needs are the…

Thanks, y'all! Feels good to be heard--especially by other people willing to feel their deepest longings in a world of crazy. My next question: How to be brave about it? xoxo

IF YOU ARE FEELING, YOU ARE WINNING

I constantly grapple with and see others grappling with finding the root causes of all the brokenness and violence in our unsustainable system. Why are we degrading people, the environment, schools, oceans, countries?? It’s not long before we come to a very small number of motivators. Money and capitalism. Sometimes power & influence is in there too… but even that often leads back to money. Both very real, of course. Money & Capitalism. But why?Why are we willing to exchange peace,…See More

Growing Lately

I grew at a conference recently. As much as one can reasonably grow in a weekend. Not in largess or stature or net worth, but certainly in terms of understanding. In every economics or business course probably on the planet, students learn that to grow is to succeed. To get your product to shelves across the country, or around the world, to license your name, to franchise, to open up stores or offices or restaurants is supposed to be every businessperson’s dream. Whatever it is, the wider your…See More

So glad to see these conversations happening! Thanks for the notes, Milena. I agree with everyone about the site switch...It seems hard to understand why moving it would actually address the issues. What do other organizations do to cope with this?…

Corporate Death Penalty: Rights & Responsibilities of the world's largest entities ever

Here's what I added to my petition about the Supreme Court Ruling to be insane :) sorry! To allow them unlimited amounts of corporate money to flow into our political system.

Corporations received all of these rights without being subject to any systems of justice, as the rest of us are. They should be subject to the same laws that keep Americans “safe” from each other.

If they commit a crime against us, they should have to go to a corporate holding cell from which they…

Why we go Beyond & excuse my language

Imagine:

What if every single business and corporation recycled all their paper products? Their Aluminum? Their plastic?

What if every single one of them donated 10% of profits to charity or preserving the rain forest or planting trees??

What if they all began turning off their lights and computers and copiers at night?

It would be far to have come!

...& Then would we be sustainable??

No!

We'd still be f*cked!

This is deeper than an action. This… Continue

Signing on to the adventure of a yes!

I stay behind in Colorado while Seth begins touring much of the United States for the ACTIVATE Tour. I can feel it- It’s an adventure: the saying of the yes and the way that things mystically line up when you jump in. Things line up, yes, but not always in ways we’d imagine them to…It doesn’t mean the car won’t break down, or that you’ll get along with everyone at every moment.

Everyone joining up with the Activate tour is also embarking upon the adventurous Yes! Signing up to… Continue

KING MIDAS, U.S.A.

King Midas was known for his amazing ability to grow beautiful, fragrant roses, for his tenderness as a father to his daughter Marygold, and of course, for being the richest person in his kingdom. King Midas spent his days feasting, relaxing in his gardens, and occasionally, rolling around his vaults filled with his gold & jewels.

One day the God Dionysus happened by as King Midas was laughing in his vault. In disguise, Dionysus told the King how foolish he sounded, but Midas… Continue

Hey,
Oh! Thank you, I found it. : D

My school isn't anything extra-special really, I'm just very involved in it. I've been on the Student Council for most of my time there and last year I was elected Co-President for this year. And while everyone thinks that Student Council just organizes dances and pep rallies I'm trying to make it a personal goal to do more as a leader. We recently had Leadership Camp where we go down to a camp for two days and gain leadership experience in team-building exercises and unlike previous years I was paired with other seniors who also have leadership experience so the councillors put us through a lot more "leadership theory" and more interesting activities. It was a very enlightening and empowering experience. Anyway, I'm currently trying to come up with some environmental initiatives that I can lead the school in because I'm involved in planning a film festival with an environmental theme for the community. In my class "Reframing the World" we are attempting to deconstruct modern ideologies in politics, and economics (such as globalization and environmental apathy). My teacher and I are using this class as a springboard for spear-heading an environmental committee and ultimately sustainable environmental action in the school and the community. Yeah, so that's what I'm doing in my school.

PS Thanks again for making the group. : ]

Hi, thanks for the welcome and the compliments on my page (its made to look like my blog). Could you direct me to any of the Canadian Street Teams? That would be awesome, I doubt they'd be in my area though, probably in the big cities but it'd be cool to see how they got involved. Also at the moment I haven't recruited many people for the cause but I have at least one friend who might be interested in helping organize a Canadian Branch. Anyway, if I could get the information on how to start a Street Team and what it means for my responsibilities that would be wicked. I'd be very thankful. :]

Thanks. I think it was worth coming down, even if there wasn't a lot of actual stuff done, it did help my confidence with getting stuff done in Northern Colorado.
I think I'm ready, but there is one thing that would be nice... I don't have a copy of the package that people get when they sign on to start a street team. I know Seth typically deals with all that, but Seth is busy with all the activate tour stuff. Is there another way to get ahold of that? I think that would really help me.
I think with the response that I've been having that I may be able to put on a small event--like maybe a poetry slam, since I know plenty of slam poets--put it on to benefit the resettlement agency that I used to volunteer for. Did you get the e-mail that I forwarded out? They need beds and stuff for single people, and they always need winter coats.
