Today the Anti-war students of Strathclyde Universities Stop the War Party and the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign won a vote which see's the War Mongerers BAE Systems voted off of campus.
BAE Systems is the 5th largest arms dealer in the world and they fund they Mechanical Engineering Department by donating money for research and for providing scholarships for a small number of students.
This may seem like a good point and it is for those students who benefit, however…

Sorry for the late reply, I was in Paris for a few days and I didn't check my emails whilst I was there (i like to absorb as much culture as I can when I visit places so I make a point of not going on the net ;))
Anyhoo they had more negotiations on Friday as Noor said, as far as I know they discussed the next few demands:
1.they got the DEC appeal demand (fundraising on campus etc) met
2.they're allowed to make a proposal for the 5 Palestinian scholarships but just for Palestinian students. They can't make a proposal for Israeli students because England is an ally of Israel and it can't reward its allies citizens when they break the law, we knew this from the beginning but it was more a symbolic gesture than anything else to let them know we're thinking about them.
3.finally they're still in discussions about the divesting one, the university has already said that it would divest itself but they're dragging their heels to say the least...
Will keep you updated!
:)
sorry we haven't gotten back to you in a while..
negotiations actually went alright on Monday -- they only discussed 4 demands. We got the one to send supplies to Gaza from our uni, and we're allowed to fundraise on campus BUT we can't use the Uni of Manc logo (but we're working on that) and then we're not allowed to boycott a country but we can boycott companies that support that country so we're looking into major corporations that our uni invests in and hopefully we can get them to pull out and boycott all those on campus. The last one was about divesting from the arms trade which the VC kind of just said yeah yeah we're working on it and blah blah blah we have a group to focus on it but didn't give an actual answer. Negotiations continue on Friday!
I'll be sure to let you know what happens then :)

It was so nice meeting you guys on wednnesday!you're energy and dedication inspired us all in Manchester. Tell your friend (brad- i think) that his speech was AMAZING, he really knew his stuff and you could see the passion he felt for the movement in each and every word!
I came back later in the evening but you guys were asleep, and i waited till 5am to say bye but you guys love your sleep ;). How was your drive home?
Have you heard what happened? We left the building cos he said he would go into negotiations with us - but he know he can't mess us about cos we're 1000 strong and if needed we'll re-occupy!
Good to meet you yesterday, thanks for coming down!
Just wanted to update you.. We received a letter today (4.15pmish) from Gilbert saying the occupation has been instructed to end at 5pm today (a little late notice, dontcha think?) and that he WILL take action against us this time, due to our not so peaceful protest last night... He says his staff felt "intimidated." They're discussing now whether to enter into negotiations and leave or what.. We'll keep you posted :)
Again, thanks so much for your (all of you) support yesterday!
thank you for the comment :)

I'm glad you guys are coming down, a group of 10 passionate activist are better than 100 apathetic people! With regards to parking, I drive so if you give me a call when you arrive I'll tell you where to park (you can get my number off Becca).
Also because you're arriving so early in Manchester why don't you guys come support the Manchester Metropolitan University demonstration that is calling for more democracy, representation and transparency until the Manchester University demo starts at 2! When we finish at Man Met we’ll march down together!
Look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow!
Viva la revolution!
