Bay Area Monthly Meetup at San Francisco Public Library

Thumbnail
February 22, 2009 from 3pm to 4:30pm
First off, I want to thank everyone who made it out to the last Wake-Up Session. I love all the collaborative ideas that we came up with. And for those who were not able to make it, I hope that you’ll be able to make it next time.At the Wake-Up Session we decided to make our official Monthly Meet-Up every last Sunday of the month. This way we always know that we will have a meeting at the end of the month to contribute ideas and start putting into action what we are trying to accomplish. Also during the Wake-Up session we came up with 3 specific issues that we would like to focus on in the Bay Area that runs with the national Fight with Tools Theme of "To Activate Communities by increasing Awareness to Create Sustainability." The 3 issues are Bay Area Homelessness, Shopping Local/Local Economy sustainability, and Music sustainability. Now that we have 3 focuses on what we believe people need more awareness in, in order to create sustainability, we have to make a creative plan to place into action the change that we want to see in our communities. For our next Monthly Meet-Up, this will be on Feb. 22, I’m hoping we’ll have a collaborative plan that we can start putting into action. If you have any ideas, questions, and/or concerns, before then, feel free to e-mail, call, or text me at anytime and I’ll be sure to get back to you ASAP. I hope to hear from you soon and thanks so much for your time. The place and time of the Meet-Up is listed down below.See More

Thank you so much for reaching out. I have become sidetracked for a couple months but please don't forget about me because I still care a lot and think my time will be more available to help with projects.

That sounds awesome. I think adding it to the SF Library site is a good idea too, is there a spot for organizations? I think we should regularly be adding it on Craigslist under the volunteering &/or community groups sections.

About Me
Hi, my name is Natalie. I'm an art teacher at an afterschool program and currently attending community college. I'm very passionate about art and hope to one day start an all-inclusive elementary school (and eventually middle school) here in san francisco. My dream job would be to become an art therapist for kids with special needs. I love kids and i believe so much in their bright future. I'm a very open-minded person but have my set convictions. I try to find beauty in the simplest of things and i'm a strong believer in positive reinforcement, in terms of seeing the potential in those i interact with.
How I would like to change the world:
I want the world to be a safe place to live in. I want to create an ambiance of hope and inspire a mind-set of possibilities for EVERYBODY. i want my negative experiences to become someone else's chance for change. Specifically, I want to spread positive images, words, and actions to every single person i come in contact with.
Tools I Have
My music appreciation. I recently started hosting open mics at a local cafe and it's been progressing and generating a lot of positive feedback. I struggle with a lot of undiagnosed emotional challenges and find a lot of relief in the art of music and lyrics and so i like to utilize my outlet for other people to be set free. I believe that i'm a natural leader and that i have lots of good ideas and ambitions.
Specifically my voice through poetry and my artistic creativity.
Tools I Need
Support mostly. i lack a lot of resources with how to begin certain plans and ideas. And the most obvious is money but fundraising can take care of that. I'm also not very educated on enough things i'm interested in becoming more involved in, like politics and things like that. I need education.
Favorite Bands
Jimmy Eat World, Geographer, Death Cab For Cutie, Audreye Sessions, The Shins, Weezer, Silversun Pickups, The Strokes, Bloc Party, PlayRadioPlay, The Kooks, Vampire Weekend, The Chemical Brothers, etc...
What issues are you most passionate about?
no

Something New

When you ask me how I am,

I want to tell you

Something new.

When I see the sunrise and witness it’s smile,

I hope

For something new.

When I close my eyes and sleep at night,

I dream

Of something new.

When I see the world around me,

I’m unhappy.

When I recognize my reflection,

I’m ashamed.

I refuse to believe

That anything, in this… Continue

HEROES

The Chosen

Legends to become

Heroes

Men & Women who dream

Because

They’re visionaries

Willing to save

They’re ordinary people

That sacrifice

Super human is their strength

With energy to surpass

Those with purpose

Waiting for the call to serve

Their name written in the sky

As a sign to action

Here they come

The average rise

To become great

The magnificent They

We call them heroes

Sharing is Caring

These streets they speak as loud as thunder. Like crashing waves upon heavy rocks underneath the water—unpolished gems forgotten among the rubble of broken dreams. They whisper through the echoes of your empty pockets and noisy shoes. You never asked for our money; you wanted CHANGE. “Yes We Can” is our president’s anthem but will we, I don’t know. Can we love beyond our own difficulties? Will we stop to consider what someone else may need before we invest our thoughts on what we want? I… Continue
