About Me
Recent California State University San Bernardino graduate with a B.S. in Community Health Education and Promotion & B.A. in Biology in 2003. I'm also a member of Eta Sigma Gamma, a public health honors society, and other public health organizations. I'm looking forward to working in public health and empowering those individuals who are in poverty and disenfranchised.
How I would like to change the world:
I would love to make the world a more compassionate and understanding place. We are all different and to understand other people's backgrounds and reasoning is important in creating an environment that is nurturing and more insightful. I would like to educate and build self-efficacy to empower people to make change around them and to join with others to make a stronger effort. I would also like to find a way to redistribute the wealth in this country and the world to provide people with better access to health care, education, food, and water. These are rights all people have no matter where they are from. Unfortunately, the top 1% doesn't agree with that wants to continue to own 80% of the world's assets.
Tools I Have
With my B.A. in Biology and pre-med background, I understand some medical terminology and procedures, genetics, biological and chemical processes, ecology, and laboratory testing. My B.S. in Community Health has provided me the knowledge to conduct community organizing; diffusion of knowledge and information throughout communities and society; advocating for people's rights and policies; grant writing; developing, implementing, and evaluating community health programs; using different media outlets to advocate or disseminate information; conducting statistical analysis; and issues of politics, society, and international health. Through my position as Research Assistant and Study Coordinator, I have become more comfortable speaking publicly to different audiences, conducting health assessments, interviewing, counseling people with drug and alcohol addictions, and providing informed consent and HIPAA regulations. I also listen to public radio (KPFK) and Democracy Now to keep up on current events around the country and the world.
Tools I Need
I would like to have more experience in advocacy work, policy, and legislation. Also, more experience in various community health programs. An ecological approach is the best way to make change (interactions between individual/community, environment/society, and policy).
Favorite Bands
FLOBOTS (of course), Common, Coldplay, a little bit of Kanye West, System of A Down, Juanes, Celia Cruz, U2, The Beatles, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Benise, Panic! at the Disco, Green Day, The Roots, Talib Kweli.
What issues are you most passionate about?
yes

I guess I can't complain on things here in PA.  Yea, I had messaged you a while back about something, but can't remember exactly what it was about now.  Anywho, finished my MPH. B+ on the thesis, so now they just have to mail me the diploma!

FWT on this side of the country seems to be dieing a slow death unfortunately.  With my thesis taking all my time since the summer, I had to put the street team on the back burner and I haven't heard from Dan, my co-leader in a while.  Maybe soon, I'll see about picking things back up as the Spring arrives.

It's pretty dead here in Vegas, but I just recently got the internet hooked up again, and I'm going to send messages or email everyone else in the group to see if they're still active. The activate booth fell through for me since I never found a ride to the show and at the time lived way on the south end. Do you have any tips on how I could get more people in the area to join FWT?

Hey! Thanks! That's great! I am a Pre-K teacher and educational director at a private school. It blows my mind every day. Let me know when you have some more info; my group is working with the local Library Foundation right now trying to create an Independent Library District so that it doesn't have to close. (lost it's county funding) As we are becoming somewhat known in our community it would be nice to be recognized on the website. Thanks again!

Hey, I have a Hood RIver group off and rolling, hoping to make contact with someone to make us a group/give us a page. We just successfully raised 1500 dollars for Red Cross by holding a silent auction. We recruited more members and have had a lot of interest and we're ready to keep the momentum rolling, we just haven't heard back from anyone. Hit me back, let me know what we need to do to be a group.

Yes, that is where I go to church. You just reminded me of one of my youth pastors long ago, and I was a little curious. And the We The People Festival, don't worry about it. I believe I was busy that weekend, and now that football season's over, time is something that I've gained a good amount of. I recently vollunteered at my church for the "Bee A Blessing" program for women, yet due to rain, the part where we get to fix cars was rescheduled to sometime in January I believe. I went to my church last night, and the youth pastors are doing a program to help get more people in our Junior High thing.

thanks. I might be busy that weekend if I have a Bowl game for LVSD Pop Warner, but I wish you guys the best of luck if I can't go. I am a Boy Scout, so in a way I am helping go green. but If you haven't read my page, I'm only 13, and I do encourage my parents to support our local stores and stuff like that. Random go green tip: next time you shower, when you use shampoo or conditioner or both, turn the water off as you lather your hair, then turn it back on and continue. I'll check out that site.
