Dear Denver,This is an invitation to help build a movement—to take one day and use it to stop the climate crisis.Flobots.org & FightWithTools.org are joining forces with 350.org!! Jonny 5 of The Flobots will be speaking/performing on the West Steps.. We will need help with a sack lunch assembly, we will incorporate the lunches into the photo. Then we will go feed some people after the rally!! There might also be a Black Out JamOut at the Community Space after..We can use as much help as posible for the lunch assembly, so it will be posted as a event of it's own..350.org a group of people from around the planet—young and old, scientists and writers and activists—who have one thing in common. We know the most important number on earth: 350. And we know how to use that number to finally get global action on the worst crisis humans have ever faced.See More

Highlander Session - Part 2! at Flobots.org Community Collective

Thumbnail
August 17, 2009 from 6pm to 8:30pm
The Highlander Session idea has been floating around Denver this summer, evolving. After this session on the 17th, we will be breaking into small groups of 4-6 to share whatever versions of our life stories we wish to share with the group. It will be up to individual groups to determine their own structure and schedule.During this session on the 17th, we will practice this process in a larger group setting, as Josh and I have agreed to share our stories that night. The current hope is that we can grow, individually and collectively, as we learn to speak and listen with each other about our lives. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. We will practiceSelf reflection: What is the story of my life?Story telling: How do I want to present my experiences to others?Listening to understand: How can I contribute to atrusting and healthy environment? Trusting and healthy relationships? If you have not yet been to a Highlander Session, but plan to participate, it will be helpful for you to watch this hour long interview Amy Goodman did with folk singer, Utah Phillips. It's an hour of stories, and to watch it is to sit beside an elder who would love what we are doing. Many of us have watched this together, and discussed it; it's part of the impetus and context for our Highlander Sessions. Please watch it if you have the means:http://www.democracynow.org/2009/1/1/placeholder_utah_phillipsAlso, if you're interested, some information on what used to be the Highlander Folk School, and is now the Highlander Research and Education Center in the state of Tennessee: http://www.highlandercenter.org/about.aspSee More

About Me
Trying to live my life to the fullest. I'm passionate about the things I care about, and succeed at striking a good balance between play, work, craziness, seriousness, being productive, and screwing around. I'm the best father in the world, a decent biologist/ecologist, a fairly poor guitarist, and getting better t the bass by the day.
How I would like to change the world:
Dream big - everybody living sustainably in peace and harmony with each other and the environment. I WILL make the world a better place, by raising my kids responsibly, through my research, teaching, and music.
Tools I Have
best FWTer friends imaginable, my free thinking mind, Mute Man's Microphone, Bands for Lands, passion for a better world, love of family, friends, community, music, and life. I also have a lot of knowledge about sustainability and the environment. College students in the Denver area, also contact me if you want to conduct research in ecology, environment, and sustainability.
Tools I Need
time. ability to close - i have WAY more ideas than projects that I actually follow through with.
Favorite Bands
Mute Man's Microphone, Wheelchair Sports Camp, SoFo, Gription, Five Iron Frenzy, Umconscious, Boondock Saints, Born in the Flood, Hillbilly Hellcats, Fulcrum, Five Iron Frenzy, Hate F Trio, P-Nuckle, Construct, and Opie Gone Bad from Denver. Other favorites include RATM, Street Sweeper Social Club, Sage Francis, Tool, Metallica, Sublime, Emmanuel Jal, KRS One, Queen, Rush, KISS, Midnight Oil, Jane's Addiction, STP, Aerosmith, Eminem, and the list goes on. Always open to new bands.
What issues are you most passionate about?
yes

We Are Winning!!!!

On our way home from beautifying the vacant lot, my daughter said 'Dad, that was fun. It makes me want to serve the community.' Her brother actually agreed with his sister, a rarity! Thank you Bots and Street Team for making my kids better people, and the world a better place. Agape.

They also commented about how it was cool that the famous Flobots were actually working to clean the lot along with their fans. The Flobots didn't ask to be role models, but that comes with fame. This parent is damn happy that his kids have such powerful, positive role models to look up to. Thanks again. Other parents out there, take your kids to an all-ages show and buy them a copy of 'Fight with Tools'.

It happened again driving back from making 'Peace Signs' for the Flobots/Rage Festival. This time with their friend Ashleigh, all 3 kids said that when they participate in these activities, they get fired up to help more.

Greg! I apologize for A) leaving you that really confusing/distracted phone message! My doorbell rang and my neighbor let herself into my apt. to see if I wanted to talk with the door-to-door person who had rung the bell....all while I was leaving that message! :( and B) I feel like I was kind of rude when you called to say you couldn't come to the highlander meeting tonight (Sunday). It's been hard to get people together, and I think I was feeling a little frustrated about that......but I totally understand, and I'm sorry I wasn't more understanding on the phone.

How were the hockey games??

Hi Greg - I should have talked with ya'll about this over the weekend, but I didn't think of it. I can't remember if you expressed early interest in the Highlander Sessions or not. There's a description of the idea on a discussion labeled something like, "Highlander Session Pilot Groups" on the Denver page if you want to check it out. Anyway, I'm going to be putting small groups together in the next couple of days, and you should let me know if you want to be in one or not - or if you know of anyone else who would like to. Thanks!

Actually, I forgot there are pics of me on my profile. I just added one of me while in Florida. Sometimes it takes a few second for my pics to come up right above my comments section.

I do need to get some pics on here. This is Art from California. I was with Sarah, Cynthia, and Mark. I'll see what I can do about getting something up so people could recognize me. There were so many people there it can be hard to remember names. Even profile names since we didn't put our profile names on our name tags.

Hey. How's it going greg? Hope all is well. It was great meeting you at the conference. I wish we could have talked more. You were actually one of the inspirations to get things going in my community. I saw the pics of you and your kids volunteering and I thought how awesome was that.
