Hey Columbians! (Of Missouri, that is) We are thinking about having a get together on Saturday June 13th to get people together so we can vote on what we want to do. I could really use all the help I can get, so if you're gonna be in the area, let me know!
I'm looking to start a street team in Columbia, MO! It's a pretty pathetic team right now so if you're in the columbia area or know someone who is, please check out our page! I'm also interested if anyone has any advice on how to recruit more members from our community who may not be aware of this organization. Does anyone have a template for fliers I can put up to announce our first meeting? Thanks everybody!
Hey everybody!! And by everybody I think I'm only talking to a few people, but I'm posting this in hopes that others will see and join in. I think it's about time that the CoMo group get something going here in our beautiful community. I was thinking that we may want to have some sort of a "recruitment" event so we can get the word out and try to get some more members. Also, we could use that time to let people vote on what kinds of volunteer activities they would be interested in. I was thinking maybe a BBQ or something like that. We could make some fliers to put around town and maybe make a facebook page to get the word out that way too. I know of at least a few of my friends that would probably be interested in getting involved and I'm sure we could find more too. I'm sure we probably won't get very many to start, but hopefully we can slowly grow our membership. Here are a couple volunteer opportunities in our area that I found. If we do have some sort of an event, maybe we can discuss these/vote on ideas there.* Art in the Park* Blind Boone Ragtime Fest* Adopt-a-spot (good way to get our name out too!)* Show-me State Games* Lunch in the Park* Clean-up Columbia (already passed, but maybe the next one)* Food Pantry* Rainbow House Emergency ShelterThere are a lot of opportunities out there, we just have to know where to look. Columbia also has a vision committee that is through the cit; we could get some ideas from them. Let me know what you guys think! (If there is actually anyone reading this).See More
I'm 24, born and raised in CoMo, went to college up at Truman State University for speech pathology and am now back as a speech therapist for preschoolers. I live with my fabulous roommate and some day soon we're going to open our own preschool for young children with severe language impairments. Throughout my life I've flitted from one hobby to another, never staying with one thing for very long because I get bored (I've been told that comes along with being bipolar). The hobbies I'm currently stuck on are playing guitar, gardening (in an inflatable kiddie pool on my patio), and biking. I'm not really that good at any of these hobbies but I have fun which is all that really matters.
Tools I Have
I have the compassion to want to help others and the passion to help change those things in this world that aren't right.
Tools I Need
I need a venue for getting involved. I don't know where to start or what to do...I'm hoping here's a good place to be!
Favorite Bands
I hate Pachelbel and everything he stands for...I particularly hate his canon in D. If you have ever played cello...you understand. If not, then you should check out Rob Paravonian's "Pachelbel Rant" on youtube. Oh, and the fact that Flobots has a violist in their band rocks my face off. That's so amazing! That's what grabbed my attention before I knew what their message was.
What issues are you most passionate about?
yes

I am certainly interested!!! I must apologize for my lack of activity as of recent, however since I originally joined and dedicated my time some tyhings have changed in my immediate situation. This does not mean by any means that I do not want to participate in any, or all local events. Please let me know what your plans are and if I can join I will, or if I can help with logitics. In any case I am glad someone other than me in this great community is taking an active role in making change a reality!!!
I completely concor with that violinist statement, I think there diversity is what will draw so many, and their song anne braden is on of my favs, have you heard it? Anyway welcome and I hope we can be friends. Like i said in the discussion reply, I had a dream of missouri and I'm learning to put stock in dreams. I think you are in the right place to get started... by the way I also play the guitar, Im a lyrisist and writer. you should keep on with it because that is a great outlet for your message to get across. Don't give up. Retreat is not an option.
