I'm currently a student at the University of New Mexico, majoring in psychology and philosophy. In my free time I enjoy parkour, local music, and keeping up with university activities. I went to high school in small town New Mexico, where I was a dedicated student athlete, as well as an extremely active student council member. What I liked about growing up away from dense urban life was learning how much of a difference an individual or small group could make, and never losing my self-efficacy to make a difference. When I moved down here to Albuquerque my first job was as a canvasser for the Sierra Club, which I absolutely loved. Currently I'm taking small steps to a better world, including grocery shopping at the local co-op, encouraging recycling, and hopefully getting my parkour friends here into the Leave No Trace program to help clean up urban Albuquerque.
How I would like to change the world:
I have a few specific goals, including joining Greenpeace, perhaps after college. I also want to work as a canvasser again, and when I find myself owning a house I've promised myself that it is going to be 100% green (already know how to make solar panels :D). I think the best thing that I can do to make a positive future is to be a good example to my niece and nephew, and to reach out and come together with my friends and family to be good, compassionate people who work to solve our problems together.
Tools I Have
I fight the system by working well within it, I have an irritating resilience to discouragement, I am good at getting people to work for common goals, I'm not easily ignored, I have social ties to many local bands with good messages like Constant Harmony, and I'm a vigilant and versatile worker.
Tools I Need
People to work and talk with, connections to social works projects in Albuquerque and/or at UNM, small projects to get me started :D
Favorite Bands
Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine, Flobots, Motion City Soundtrack, Cake, Bush, Atmosphere, mc chris, blink 182, Grieves, The Offspring, Paramore, Silverchair. Most any underground hip-hop, local Albuquerque music, and 90s alternative/post-grunge.
What issues are you most passionate about?
Equal Rights (I'm so pissed that GLBT individuals are still getting stonewalled >.<), environmental sustainability, education, modern American imperialism, neoliberalism, Horizontalidad, globalization, and many more...
