Sleepwalkers

My community, Bard College at Simon's Rock is a ghost town. Not in the way that movies of America's "Old West" depict, we are not haunted by phantasms or specters. We are plagued by something much more vile, something much more enduring and tragic; there is a cloud of apathy that hangs around my campus, one that fogs up the minds of the student body. Okay, first some background info. Bard College at Simon's Rock is an early college. By that i mean, it does not require a High School diploma to…See More

About Me
I am 18, a writer, a martial artist, a lover, a friend, a son and younger brother as well as the only black kid in a white family, the only white kid in his old community, a dread-locked Hungarian descended from African slaves who now wants to do something, anything, to change the world i am living in. I left my high school to attend an early college, leaving my city of Pittsburgh and a girlfriend of 2 years, hoping that things would change and that i would be more than a grade, be able to use my talent to get to know the world. Nothing changed, it is still the same. i do not want my children to feel as cheated as i do by the way things work. i believe in creativity, freedom and the need to be aware. i hope this is the first step.
How I would like to change the world:
I want to end slavery. human trafficking, sex slavery, sweat shops, all of it i wish to be an abolitionist
Tools I Have
I am a capable writer, have a community in several churches around Pittsburgh (i lived there most of my life and still consider it to be my "home") i know martial arts and have experience doing manual labor (restoring old schools, community gardens, working in homeless shelters, etc) as well as a passion to see his happen.
Tools I Need
someone to direct me, to say "here, go this way," or "this is the guy you need to talk to." with so many programs it is hard to get a good foothold in any area.
Favorite Bands
Coheed and Cambria
What issues are you most passionate about?
Human Trafficking

Hey, love what you have to say and hope to hear more of it. Hope you can make it up for our Urban Greenspace Sustainability Project. And let me know if you need any help with anything, because I'm definitely the guy to say "her, go this way" or "this is the guy you need to talk to". No matter where you're at.

Hey thanks for connecting. You sound like you're headed in the right direction so just keep on.

I'm here in Denver reporting on local African communities, and I recently had the chance to meet with a former slave from Sudan named Francis Bok. He is now an anti-slavery activist and wrote a book about his life. If you get the chance, find his book at the library. It's called Escape from Slavery: The True Story of My Ten Years in Captivity and My Journey to Freedom in America. He's a remarkable dude.

And if you ever find yourself in Denver get in touch.
