During the FWT Conference in Denver, a conversation was started about needing to figure out a structure to have national representation from the FWT membership on organizational decisions and planning. This group, the National Street Team Council (NSTC), is NOT AT ALL a hierarchical model, but rather a functional, working group that would be willing to invest time and energy in how FWT develops, with regional/national (maybe soon international) representation.
Discussions were created to answer many questions on how the group would be formed, what the responsibilities/roles of group members would be, if the group would be made of "organizers", suggestions for the nominating process, criteria for NSTC members, and specific roles (positions) that must be covered.
Examples of things the council would need to start working on ASAP are:
1) membership financial model
2) accountability & support for organizers
3) partner organization model
Based on feedback, some consensus was made on a few things regarding the council:
1) members will take on specific roles to be sure all areas of the NSTC’s responsibilities are covered and to emphasize council members’ strengths
2) it will consist of active members that are not organizers, or organizers that are willing to allow others to take on their organizing responsibilities if they are picked so as to prevent burn out
3) there will be regional representation consisting of 6 regions: Upper and Lower Coasts, and Upper and Lower Midwest.
The nominating process will start January 19th (Monday). The deadline (decided by the board) for having the National Council up and running is FEBRUARY 1. So start thinking about whom you want to nominate and how they would best fit the NSTC. I have attached the PDF file of the structure of the NSTC for everyone to look at. You can post your responses to this discussion or we can talk about this further if we have a meeting really soon so we can beat the deadline.
Thanks everyone,
