Thanks to all who attended. The Urban Greenspace Sustainability Project was a success! I would say we had approximately 25 volunteers from our group, friends, and local orgs and neighbors. We turned a pretty much abandoned, overgrown, trash-filled lot into a beautiful garden, including a juneberry tree! We hope this brings a positive change to the community, where they can continue to beautify their neighborhood and take pride in it.
I'm going to try to add a couple of pictures of the end result here, but Dan of Philly got lots of video footage of the project. Please look out for the finished video on the site an especially on the Philly Street Team Page.

To All:
We had our WakeUp Session yesterday. Even though there were only 7 members, from the Philly and Eastern PA towns ST, we were able to discuss a number of ideas and Street Team focuses. The following is an outline of what was discussed. I know Ebonie took notes as well, so she may add some information. For those of you who were not able to attend, you were missed. We will always look to make change no matter how many are involved. We just have to understand our impact relies on how many people get involved. Even though Matt and I are the Philadelpha Street Team Organizers, we considered the following ideas 'game' for all Tri-State Area street teams.
WakeUp Session: 09/28/08
1. fightwithtools - agenda involvement
- To participate in the Flobots next stage of their voting agenda via "The Word" link at the top of the FWT website. This has us committing to making sure at least 10 unmotivated friends to go to the polls. They may be registered, but will they all vote? Its our job to make sure. Please read "The Word" for more details.
- Recommend a focus for next year's agenda, at the Nat'l ST conference, for the Department for Peace. Whether its part of the larger Flobots agenda or just ours, we can work at gathering support for a bill proposing the establishment of a Dept. for Peace under the executive branch.
2. Tri-State Area Street Team agenda - Short Term
- Individuals can continue to register voters through Monday (post mark by monday at the latest for mailing). I added a student voter guide for PA students at the top since we have a number of college students involved.
- Get a list of locations one can vote at. Anyone can search for the closest voting station at maps.google.com/vote.
- Print flyers with 2 vertical columns: one for each candidate listing their stance on any number of issues. We want educated voters.(Obama's website does issue comparisons already, so info can be drawn directly from that campaign site)
- Get 5 people to join fightwithtools.org by election day
- Create and produce Flobots and fightwithtools.org stickers and flyers. Logan can produce stickers for us if designs are provided. Ideas for designs include; flobot 13's comic strip pics, website address, phrases, maps.google.com/vote address, & other info.
- Flobots/Matisyahu Concert on October 30th at the Electric Factory can be a good venue for sticker and flyer distribution. Sheppard to contact friend for possible "ins". Contact Johnny 5 to ask if he can provide "pull" for either a booth, authorization to hand out flyers, and/or just give us a "shout-out" during concert. We can also see about using the t-shirt booth for flyer distribution as well.
- Tentitively set up next meeting before Oct. 30th concert. 1-2hrs prior to doors opening.
3. Tri-State Area Street Team agenda - Long Term
- Dept. of Peace
- Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia. Sheppard to provide contact info so ST members can sign-up as coordinators for the program.
I may have forgotten some things. I'm sure others from the meeting will add. Please provide any comments or questions you may have. Thanks.
