From Jonny 5: "The Activate Tour is an opportunity to re-energize and reorient ourselves. There will be a strong focus on laying the foundation for street teams to take action, including workshops and trainings on basic organizing strategies, grassroots fundraising, and conflict resolution."

There is a story that someone told me a while back of a Chinese woman who was held in captivity during the Chinese cultural revolution. Not many people in the U.S. know much about the Chinese cultural revolution, but I believe that it was second to the amount of death and destruction to the holocaust. This woman was held and tortured in an attempt to "re-educate" her. She refused to be broken by her captors. Her body was mutilated, including her genitals. They could not break her though. When asked if she hated the people that did that to her she replied saying that she could not hate them. To hate them would mean that she was no better that her persecutors. Take this as an example. Love the people that do you harm. To hate is to elevate the situation. Hate is very contagious, but so is love. Which do you want to spread through your heart and through the community?

When someone who is silent speaks out their words have a greater effect. It's like a nearby lightning strike in the middle of a quiet night. If you have something to say, say it. There is someone listening, and you never know who that someone is. Listen when someone says something. Open your mind and examine what is being said. Don't take everything at face value.

Habitat for Hamtramck is a grassroots organization with the goal of rehabilitating houses in the Hamtramck area of Detroit and then giving them to families that can help further the positive redevelopment of the area. By accepting donations from the public then redistributing the accrued funds vis-à-vis cash payments to local workers and cash purchases of the building material which can then be gifted to the jobsite, the organization can bypass bureaucratic hassles and tax impediments, speedily accomplishing tasks that may otherwise take months to complete by larger, less pragmatic organizations.

We're looking for any help you have to offer.

We need volunteers to help with urban garden projects throughout the city. Who wants to do this?
