I have a group of volunteers coming into Denver in January and February. Does anyone have any projects which they will need some help with? Looking for some active non profits to work with. Would love to focus on the youth and homeless issues in Denver, but anything is possible. Cheers

Quiznos has fallen asleep on Farmworker rights. We're hoping our Flashmob Action wakes them up but that will only happen if we get your attention first. Help spread the word! SHARE THIS VIDEO! :)

Hey everyone! We're getting close to the two week benchmark until the 9/17 showparty! Anyone who wants to be involved with the planning, please let me know... We have the artists booked (Samantha Raum, Jessica Sonner, Jen Korte, and Angie Stevens).

Where we need help is in contacting other organizations who may be interested in having a table at the event. As you may know, one of the goals of the event is to connect people in the community who are interested in getting involved with a partner organization who may be doing the work that they are interested in. Art From Ashes has confirmed, but other that that, we would like to have a few more.

We also need help with the food planning, contacting restaurants or grocery stores and asking for any donations.

So if you have some free time and would like to help, either respond on here or e-mail me: link@flobots.org

Thanks everyone!

Alicia,

Rissa!

There are a few opportunities were the DST can get involved.

We have the 4th Monday Events. Seth mentioned before that it would be great if DST took ownership of this. We could be the ones contacting organizations that we feel align with our values and setting these up.

We would also like to continue the FWT Fundraiser events. We need a lot of help with this. Contacting organizations, businesses, artists, brainstorming on ideas for the events, etc.

We also have a retreat coming up. Actually, I don't know if this is still happening. We need at least 12 people to confirm and I don't think many people have responded. Please contact Seth for more info. The retreat would be like a mini WFW 101 for those who haven't participated in any of the workshops or are not familiar with our curriculum.

A DST meeting to discuss these and other outstanding issues would be great! Anyone interested in setting this up?

Zach, would you like to start organizing the Denver street team?

Also, I keep hearing that people are not being contacted or that the organizing began before people's input. I have an email from Seth (and you and the all of the 10 other members that showed up at that initial meeting are copied) where she asks for people's help. Below is the email she sent out. I feel that they WERE trying to incorporate FWTs values/mission/curriculum, but this CANNOT happen w/o FWT members. We need to stop thinking that this is a us vs them and become more proactive if we want to see any change w/n our own organization.

The opportunities are there. We just need to act. So I'm going to ask again, would you be willing to start organizing the DST? Start contacting people. And if not, could you at least offer some suggestions as to how you see or would like to see the DST start organizing. I feel that is very important for us to also offer solutions instead of just pointing out mistakes or what we're doing wrong. That just adds to this disconnect we already have.

Here's the email from Seth. The bowling ball is about 2 months away. We can still do this if we wanted to. So for anyone else reading this, if you're interested, please contact Seth.

"the staff & jamie & stephen decided yesterday that as we start to think about doing fundraising that is connected to our mission, we'd like to start in a small way at the bowling ball (think positive baby steps).

one way that can be accomplished is if we set up some kind of facilitated wall visioning connected with WATS at the bowling ball that attendees can participate in - getting a taste of our curriculum, being invited into space of transformation, and connecting with the real work of fwt. i would also really like to see denver street team folks at the bowling ball, not just as volunteers, but as powerful facilitators within our organization and community.

are there any of you who would be interested in planning this with me and/or facilitating the visioning walls at the bowling ball?

any thoughts/discussion? or other ways you all can think of doing some form of curriculum/service/change work within the context of the ball?"

yes alicia, we've had many conversations about the organization, but since the last bowling ball that's is as far as its gone, which is way different than having something addressed. In fact i still have the google doc in which most of that was discussed, and to this day only lesley's notes are on it at all, but in addition it is still more of an issue of the overall structure. The fact that we can have convo's like we do but follow through never happens in a big issue to address.

I think this is a great example, i'm not speaking for anyone but myself, but one of the biggest issues that continues to face the dst is communication. As a long time organizer i do worry when the only email/call i have received is from zoe, on a completely different topic, one in which i had to pursue. Its pretty disingenuous to say there are places for people to voice concerns when, the organizing has already begun. And because of my experience with the dst i know that if i'm not getting emails, chances are very good that i'm not alone. We had over ten people at the initial dst meeting before the institute, so i'm pretty sure there's plenty of interest, where's the communication? Having events still before any talk of how and why the dst is to organize is the repeating the same mistakes over and over.

Also there has been no communication between the membership, the organizers, and those with the bowling ball. First who is 'we'
that did the researching for sponsors? I'm excited that this is happening, but are you playing an active role in organizing for flobots.org now? OR is that in a dst capacity?
