James, i'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope you and your family are doing ok. I'll make sure to keep you in my prayers. How are things going with the group? Did you receive my e-mail with the information and packets? If not, i can easily send that stuff again. Let me know if you guys need help with anything. A booth on campuses sounds doable. Just make sure to be open and honest with people and be yourselves as you talk to them. Sometimes people don't like to stop and talk because they are busy trying to go to class or don't want to talk so don't get frustrated if you are not too successful. You can also contact campus groups that are involved in politics, sociology, or other behavioral/social sciences. Sometimes they can be a little more receptive since they are active enough to get involved in a group centered around politics or doing community work. Fraternities and sororities may also be a good avenue. These groups have to do community projects as part of their membership so FWT projects may be the avenue to do that. Also see if you its ok to post fliers and what not where students congregate the most like the student unions and cafeterias, or posting them in specific departments like sociology, political science, psychology, health science/public health, etc.

Sorry to share my grief with you all. I just have to say, Don't take for granted that your family will just always be there. My Sister who was only 45 years old passed away last night. She had a nasty cold and just stopped breathing. If you have someone you have been meaning to call or go see. Do it now, don't wait any longer.

I don't know about a booth so to speak. Not sure where we would find a booth. I thought we would just hang out near the commons of campus and chat people up. Art is working on getting some things that we might need together. I am hoping to hear from him soon so that I might review the info and see about getting some stuff printed up. I am also thinking of ways to make up some signs or something. Gonna have ta start out real low budget. but that just means we need to think a bit. OH YEAH!!!! still waiting on some responses from anyone. anyone at all.

That sounds great. I will go to Hancock college to find out what we can do. What were you thinking by the way? A booth to talk to people seems very simple and doable, plus I know I've seen those things around the campus plenty of times.

I am working with New American who is the west coast regional organizer for fight with tools. together we are planning some wake up sessions in January. I am thinking about starting at Cuesta College then perhaps Hancock College in Santa Maria. Myself or perhaps Valor if you like will have to go to the school and find out what thier policy is for such activity.

Valor if you would like to stop by Hancock since your in that area that would be great. If not I will make my way down there at some point. Anyway, I am very excited about getting things moving and don't want to sit around waiting for others to take action. although I am very very excited to meet people who have been around for a while and assist with guidence and perhaps even some proper leadership. I will be checking every step I make with New American as to limit my mistakes in the mean time.

Very true, it would be nicer to have more volunteers with us. I will attempt to do the same. Call friends, family, and ask around to anyone. This is something I'm telling anyone who happens to read this post. We'd like to get something started, but we need your help.

Other then making contact, I have not spoke with the people at the womens shelter yet. I am realizing that we first need to do something of a wake up session to get more people involved. I think getting people involved is our first step. If you have a way to contact anyone that you know of that was active at one time. I am daily sending messages to various people trying to build resources. I think my current goal for the next 30 days is going to be, Gathering resources and information and perhaps we can set a meeting date for mid January.

Hehe very sorry James. Been helping out my family with the holidays. What did the people at the Women's shelter tell you? And by help, what is it that the teachers and students want to do? Anything helps of course, but I was just wondering how many volunteers we will have.

It's great to hear that things are going forward. I know that there is a homeless shelter here in Santa Maria and I'll get a hold of them. What did you talk about with the people from the women's shelter? I'm not even sure how to approach this.
