Yes, just limiting your meat intake is fine. Fine. But not the best one can do for their body, planet, or society.
RagingKage, A vegan diet can either be healthy or unhealthy just like any other kind of diet. It depends on what you are eating. I am a very active perfectly healthy vegan and there are millions of others just like me all over the world. Do your research. I'm also guessing that as a meat eater you will die an early and possibly painful death most likely related to colon cancer.
If you research veganism it is entirely healthier than a diet including animal product. Necessary dietary components that vegan diets may lack include: iron (take a multivitamin), protein (eat bean product), B vitamins (again, take a multivitamin), Omega fatty acids (eat nuts and olives or take a fish oil supplement), and calcium (again, take the same damn multivitamin). I am vegan and since becoming so I have actually gotten healthier as I've actually started to pay attention to my diet, rather than assume it is healthy because it involves "food of substance" (like many people consider animal product to be). That being said, i'm also hate to cook and am short on cash, so I don't get as creative as some of the vegans I know. I find that one bean burrito or a protein shake gives me all the protein I need for the day, while the rest of my vitamins and nutrients are easily obtained by taking one multivitamin. People often have a misconception of vegan diets that include it being impossibly complex and arduous to do healthily, or completely incapable of being healthy. If you research it, however, it's incredibly simple and I find myself with more energy and spending less money on food.
i think my body is trying to make me vegetarian...i have random periods of time in which i'll eat less meat(its a staple in every meal) or quickly lose my apetite...or a thick, juicy, homemade steak suddenly going flavorless...i couldn't see myself becoming a life time vegetarian(my mom makes the BEST burger)but i do consider it at times, its likely to happen when i move out on my own at least as an experiment...only problem is i dont like a wide range of veggies, but if i drop meats for awhile i may
I became vegetarian just about a year ago (it was my new year's resolution) just as a test of will in trying to be healthier. I told myself that I wouldn't deprive myself of meat if I truly wanted it but the odd thing is, I never craved it. My craving for meat disappeared entirely almost from the get-go! I did, however, continue to eat fish for roughly 3 months but felt like a cheater so stopped that too...and still no cravings! It's strange how quickly your preferences change. I actually started preferring other foods and I suspect you might too. I became vegan once I looked into the whole animal cruelty thing, but the point I want to make is that it's not nearly as hard as most would think. Give it a shot for a couple of days or a week, you might be pleasantly surprised and make a positive impact as well!
develop a taste for our green little friends...and speaking of friends...i dont want to hear any more comparisons of animal minds to those of a child...newsflash...its been proven that conciousness begins in the womb...a baby spends much of its 9mths observing, learning both of itself and its enviroment... [just because one is blind it does not mean they cannot see...just because one cannot speak they are not always dumb] this is long before a childs mind is done wiring itself at the age of 7...
way before the brain halts growth at the age of 30...so to say that animals are incapable of any higher thought process other than basic instincts is absurd...for a person who is so analytical of thought processes you have little fundamental understanding of the nature of the mind. You view the ability to put language to our emotions and thoughts as proof of our dominance over nature, but that goes against our true nature...what are words but nothing more than abstract thoughts given meaning?
do you drink soy milk? does it taste good? I love milk, but I don't want to hurt an animal that would be inhumane.

so do you feel like drinking milk is horrid?

BTW DID YOU HEAR THAT MARS COMPANY TESTS ANIMALS! THEY ALL DIE IN THE END-WELL ATLEAST THE MICE DO. AND DOVE PAYS THEM TO DO IT TOO! I STOPPED BUYING ALL MARS (TWIX SNIKERS STARBURST MUSKETEERS ETC.)

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT IT!
I occasionaly drink soy milk, and it tastes ok, but it is not my favorite, i prefer rice milk
I use soy milk for cooking meals, rice milk for my cereal, and almond or hemp milk for baking. They all have their own unique flavors and qualities, so experiment away!
I don't drink soy milk because I find it repulsive. I enjoy it over cereal but plain in a glass is too creamy for me. I hear rice and almond milk is awesome but haven't tried them....never drank too much milk in the first place. My biggest replacement issue was cheese, but I stopped craving cheese after a while too.
Tell a child that the ball is red and he may claim it as blue...tell a color-blind man and you can debate all day...tell it to a blind man and it wont affect him a bit...tell it to a dolphin and he may nod in agreement. For every fact there is a differing opinion. That being said, there are no facts. Reality may be an abstract thought all in itself. Tell me, if the world were purely instinctual the why does any creature have eyes? surely not to see the beauty in the world.of couse more abstract word art...
