The site has gone practically dead...that has to change

Activity on here has dropped significantly since i joined roughly a year ago,  If any change is going to occur in any way, shape, or form on our parts, this organization needs to woken back up. Who else agrees?

I agree. This is something that I have struggled with, trying not to just get people active on the site but active as a street team in Northern Colorado.

Now that we know the problem, what's the solution?
I think there are a couple reasons for the decreased traffic.

1. Most of us joined during an presidential election year. That alone greatly increases the numbers of people who are interested in change and discussing it. So the reduces visitors may be because many people just aren't that active now, or they think they are getting the change they want from the government so there is no need to go out and advocate for it themselves.

2. At one point, people were concerned that the forum activity was taking away focus from others parts of the site and the goals the site administrators & creators had for it. So the main page was changed. There used to be a list in the center of the page that showed updated forum topics & replies. That was removed and replaced with just a primary link in the main menu.

Then recently the main menu was changed again and the forums were moved from a primary link in the main menu to a secondary link.

This just makes the forums a little harder to find. So many people won't notice them on a first visit and so they may have one less reason to return.

Well that's my 2 cents.
I'm going to go primarily with #2, I've seen many a forum die because the administrators of the website move focus away from it. Its an unfortunate reality. You don't get new-comers, and then the old and dedicated members leave out of spite or loss of interest.
Stimulate fightwithtools.org . Sounds like the start of a plan...
Myself and the other fully active member of my Street Team have struggled with this as well. We're literally a Street Team of 2, yet the Philly Street Team "supposedly" has 66 members. Unfortunately, getting a response from any of them seems to be impossible. I've tried getting them involved again through asking, pleading, inspiration, frustration and even anger, unfortunately my messages seem to fall on dead emails.

I agree with lowkey about election year interest and how it draws people's attention to change that FWT promotes, but I just wish there were more of us who are involved beyond getting caught up in the election year fad!

On another note, referencing lowkey's comments about the forum accessibility, I think the forum was a great draw for ideas, discussions, member interaction and hence new member retention and interest. However I feel a little negative about the forum activity. Let me explain and sorry for sounding negative or pessimistic.
I think that the reason the forum was such a draw because a lot of people stayed with this site to talk, debate, discuss, complain, argue, etc. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with dialogue. Unfortunately, I think that's all that some people were looking to do. Dialogue is only one stage in the process of change. People have to be willing to DO SOMETHING! They have to be willing to sacrifice their time and energy to make change in their community. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that many were only willing to sacrifice time checking out youtube or other sites, to come and talk. I'm not sure if many of them were looking to sacrifice computer/tv/socializing time for activities/events/meetings used to create change in their communities.

Anyway, sorry for the mini rant. Just for information, my Philly Street Duo is actually reaching out to student, public health, and neighborhood communities for people who want to get involved in our Street Team. We're trying to focus on people who are willing to dedicate some of their time to actual initiatives.

I'm curious as to how many street teams have say 40+ members listed, but who basically ignore the site completely. NoCo has about four actual memebers, maybe five, yet it lists 56 members... And yeah, I do know that NoCo has a unique situation, as some of those people are actually from Denver and are just people who are following basically all of Colorado, but I wish we could fix some of these false numbers... I too understand leaving comment after e-mail after discussion to no avail...
I know. Both Philly and NJ Street Teams have over 60 members, yet I can never get a response, nothing from any of them. Randomly a new person will become a member saying they are ready to do something, get involved, etc. Yet even they don't respond to anything. Its frustrating to a point where I even left a message with the Philly Team saying that if you don't plan on participating then go to the "leave group" link. Cause its really only me a 1-3 other people doing everything. Our smaller group within a group has now turned to how we can recruit other like minded individuals outside of the site. Hopefully that will have some success.
I've been trying to hold my negativity in check and not let it show to much because I don't want to bring others down but things here are getting far worse than we admit.

I started a thread documenting how the US government has ADMITTED that it is targeting AMERICAN CITIZENS for ASSASSINATION. And all that is required to do so is the Presidents go ahead. The same President that needs a court order to tap a phone or have someone arrested can unilaterally decide who has forfeited their civil rights. Who is so big a risk that they no longer deserve to live.

And NO ONE CARES. No one cares that our President gets to unilaterally decide who no longer enjoys the protections of the 5th Amendment to the Constitution. Never mind that it requires the Government to seat a Grand Jury before ANY citizen can be tried for a capital crime.

Never mind that this violates the 6th Amendments right to trial.

No one cares. It's not even on the news.

If we can't get interest in issues this significant, why do we waste time trying to fix neighborhoods or anything else. If our lives aren't secure from our own government then whats the point of anything?

Sorry but I really felt the need to vent. Is it really that important that this site is dead when our government is throwing out the Constitution? Are we really so blinded that all we care about is FightwithTools?
lowkey,
I agree with you! We are having our rights stripped away and it seems like everyone is too mind-numb to care, but that's also why I think the fact that this site is dead IS IMPORTANT. Because this site can be a tool to not only organize to clean-up neighborhoods, but also to bring together like minds across the country to do something about what's going on in this country. Its just a matter of how we use it. The problem I have is that even those who seemed to have joined the cause under FWT don't even care anymore. How can we fight for our rights if even those of like minds are so easily distracted that we can't even come together to get something going?
This site never really seemed to be busy.
I can not log in for over a month and sign in, and the same discussions will be in place with no new replies.
Though I agree with the message this site is trying to communicate and continue to return to support it and every once in a while read something interesting...
Getting more traffic? I don't know; It seems since Facebook exploded, the forum realm kinda died...
then we need an offical FWT facebook
NOOOO!!! FB isn't the same as a forum. Not the same at all.
