The Price We'll Pay For Not Voicing Our Opinions To Congress On Healthcare!

I wasn't really sure about how to explain myself in this discussion, but I figured trying, no matter how I do, is better than sitting here saying nothing.
Politics, especially at the highest levels, has nothing to do with doing what's best for the American People.  It has to do with winning and self interest.  Politicians look out for themselves and their political parties are machines created to win with no regard in how those victories are achieved.
As a result, I've set-up to receive different email communication from both parties.  Below is a typical message that I receive from ConservativeActionAlerts.  Their emails are probably the most propagandistic that I've received(I've avoided the most extreme groups), and I've included a chunk of that email for you to understand what a lot of Americans in the Republican camp are receiving regularly.  Sure, some people, Republicans included, know that a lot of what is said below is ridiculous and brush it aside.  BUT there are so many people that believe every word below, and the groups that spread this material know it and don't care about reality.... THEY CARE ABOUT WINNING!
I know the Healthcare Bill is not perfect.  If you can give me a piece of legislation that was passed AND perfect, let me know, and I'll read and research it.  MY POINT IS: Why should so many Americans continue to go without insurance coverage because one party wants to win?  Why should so much potentially beneficial legislation die over the next 3 years because power and positions are held by one party and not the other?  Why do we always seem to resort to the lowest level of competition(undercutting competition as oppose to competing to be the best)?
Right now there are thousands of people reading the propaganda below and are buying it.  And they are going to win because the mindless bahing of sheep is more powerful then you can imagine.  So I ask you to email, write and fax your representative and senator and others if possible.  Let them know what you're in favor of, even if its just to tell them that you don't believe Obama is pushing a Communist agenda and that you believe every American should have health insurance.
I'm not saying all this because I favor one party over the other.  I'm saying this because when the Clinton Administration lost their battle for healthcare, Republicans used it to mobilize, won a majority of Congress and basically stymied our government ALL IN THE NAME OF WINNING.  Lets make OUR voices known that we don't care about who wins, we care about bettering the lives of all Americans. The alternative could be that people who listen to the crap below will decide what's best for us all.  Think about it, take action, and use the system.

Dear Fighter for America,

I want YOU to help drive a stake into the very heart of OBAMACARE!

President Obama is so desperate to force his Marxist ideology on us that he is postponing his
trip to Indonesia in order to
exert pressure on Congress to get it done. He is determined to sign his supposed
healthcare reform
bill...into law!! That means "reconciliation" might happen by Wednesday.

We must do all we possibly can to stop this toxic legislation!

We must STAND against Mr. Obama's Marxist world view!!

"Let me be perfectly clear," (If I could borrow the president's favorite terminology!!)---Barack Hussein Obama would not be pressing
and pushing for OBAMACARE unless he were convinced that it is the gateway to
fulfilling his warped vision of "social justice" and "wealth distribution" that
comes straight out of the Communist Manifesto .

We must drive a stake into the heart of this extremism cloaked in pseudo-compassion.

As patriotic Americans, our goal must be to leave the President and the leftists in
Congress so politically damaged and weakened as to be rendered impotent for the
remainder of his term. Then, we vote him out along with whoever remains after
this year's election. We cannot afford to relax. President Obama has declared
ideological war on the American
people
. Now we must teach him what happens when a politician shakes the
fist of power in our faces and defies us to do anything about it. This is a
political battle of historic proportions, a fight for the very soul and future
of our country. We must stay in this battle for our values and freedom until the
victory is won!

This man has wasted a year of our valuable time pushing a healthcare takeover that we do not want, while the economy and our foreign
policy are in tatters. His priorities are the opposite of the American peoples'.
Now he has cancelled his trip to Indonesia and Australia, which is his way of saying that he will
stay here to wheel and deal, to intimidate and cajole and to buy off anyone he
can to force his socialist agenda on us.

Within hours, the Obama Administration appears poised to implement a
seldom-used parliamentary method called "reconciliation" to push through a new
healthcare bill. OBAMACARE could be signed into law within hours!!! God help us!
This is a travesty and a gross injustice to all Americans, our families and our
children who will be paying trillions of dollars for generations to come!

If you're like most of us in America you might be asking, "What is this reconciliation terminology that's being posed by some in Congress to more
easily get health care
legislation
passed?"

The process is actually called budget reconciliation because it can only be applied to budgetary legislation. Congress
uses this method when it wants—which is very, very seldom---to enact policy that
relates to goals of the budget, primarily in spending or tax laws.

Obviously, the reason we've been hearing so much about it, is that reconciliation is a way in which Congress can get a bill through the U. S.
Senate with a simple majority of 51 votes without needing to get to 60 in order
to avoid a filibuster.

My objection, like yours, is that Congress should not be allowed to use this "reconciliation" method in overhauling
ONE-SIXTH of the nation's economy. THE NEXT FEW
HOURS WILL DETERMINE THE OUTCOME!
That's why your last-minute FAX and
DONATION is so excruciatingly critical to America!

Millions of Americans are confused as to why the word "reconciliation" would be used to describe an action
that seems to indicate "my way or the highway." Webster's
Dictionary defines the word as meaning "reestablishment of friendly
relations, conciliation, accommodation, appeasement, bringing to harmony.
"
I'm just not seeing these attributes being expressed by those who are pressing
for "reconciliation".

"Reconciliation" is very, very far from what we are encountering with the Obama Administration! His mandate is:
Healthcare WITH or WITHOUT the Republicans!

But, there are still a few hours to make a distinctive difference for the very
future, heart and soul of
America
. Help me to drive a stake into the very heart of
OBAMACARE
!

Wait you don't favor one party over the other but your big concern is that the Republicans might mobilize and stymie government?

Those two statements are a contradiction. You care about winning and you care which party does win.

However you are right about one thing. The politicians do not care about doing the right thing. On either side. They care about keeping their own lucrative job and to do so are willing to sell out the best interests of the country to the lobbyists. They do this not because they believe in anything but rather because they need campaign donations for their next election run. So the people will always lose. Always.

"When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." -- PJ O'Rourke
The fools on the hill do not represent the will of the People. The FALSE left/right paradigm is a distraction. Both parties are in it for the money/power. Bush was bad, Obama's bad if not worse. Worse because Obama is forced to accelerate the elitist agenda as the American People are waking up to corruption on both sides.

There is hope though, the fact that the health care bill is being forced through via deem and pass means that the members of the house of reps are afraid to vote on it. This means that our power as the People is not gone, they still fear for their jobs. Solution: clean house in congressional elections. Vote out the bums in Congress maybe vote for a third party like Libertarian or Green.
I don't favor one party, I favor an executive/legislative relationship that will assist in passing the scraps of good the present administration has committed to. With the executive and legislative branches in opposition, doesn't that just create an excuse to do nothing? Breed a perfect environment of conflict without resolution?
But from what I've noticed, some believe that voting for another party would be an alternative? And keep voting for the alternatives that don't look to lobbyists or their strings attached donations?
This is the problem. Because every legislator is for sale to the lobbyist, there can be no good legislation. Everything that gets proposed and passed will have been through the lobbyist wringer. The politicians will make sure that they take care of their real "bosses" (i.e. those that pay for the next campaign).

The people will always be screwed. Well at least until they learn that we really don't need the people in Washington. We can live without them.
Is anyone else tired of claims that Obama is a Marxist? Personally I'm leaning towards socialist views myself and I find the claims ridiculous. Obama is a die-hard capitalist if America had a socialist leader, it'd be in a lot better shape. Americans need to look up the definition of socialism and not out of a textbook, hell maybe even read the Communist Manifesto so you can get a sense of the system you bash. Obama has no desire to bring about a Marxist revolution, he recently announced he's putting America's strong national space program into the hands of private corporations. The difference between Obama and his republican counterparts is he is not a corporatist. He is attempting through healthcare reform take away preferential treatment of corporations to people.
Yes, Obama is trying to take away preferential treatment of the insurance corporations and he did so by having private and secret meetings with representatives of those same corporations to discuss reforming their industry. No special influence for them. No sir.
[Sarcasm Off]

Wrong. Obama is doing what all politicians do. He's gone to the people that pay for campaigns and gotten their input. He's pretended to go to the American people to listen to them but always seemed to talk more than he listened at his town halls.

And during the bailout, did he help the American people first or the corporations? It was the corporations and both sides voted for it pretty quickly. The people only get help when it gets down to the wire and they can't hide it any more. When the people need help, the minority party is comfortably filibustering (which they didn't do to corporate support......).

I also found it funny that Democrats were always against trickle-down economics until it came time for the bailouts. Then the vast majority of the money goes to those on top and we hope that the aid will trickle down ...well we hope that it won't be all spent on executive bonuses.

The corporations do come first and always will. As long as politicians need to be reelected, those that pay for their campaigns will have a privileged position.
I agree with you, what I meant by that was that Obama is trying to appear not to be corporatist. I think he may wish not to be corporatist, and that may be difficult in a nation that has been run by corporations for generations, I don't know though, his personal beliefs aren't for me to argue. Regardless, the major point I was trying to make is that the current economic standing that he is demonstrating remains to be a capitalist. There is not a shred of Socialist in him at this point, so the claims are ridiculous.

Way to run away with a side-note on my argument...
There are many policies that Obama agrees with that are socialist in their nature. Social Security, Medicare, and now universal healthcare (I know it's not in the bill but Obama has expressed support fot it). Now granted many Republicans support these same policies. Hell Wilson was a supporter of Fascism (note this was before the Nazis and many Americans supported them).

So the sad part is that the average American doesn't understand politics enough to know the differences or to realize that for all the differences, they all end up at the same destination.

As for capitalist, this nation hasn't been capitalists since well before the Great Depression. We've been corporatist since at least the Spanish-American War. Read Smedley Butler's War is a Racket. The attitude has been "if it's good for business, it's good for America" for a long time and nothing has changed recently.

Way to run away with a side-note on my argument...

That is what I'm best at. :)
Yes, Obama agrees with certain socialist policies, but regardless he is overwhelmingly capitalist or better yet corporatist. I actually credit you with making me aware of the concept of corporatism vs. capitalism.

On a side-note, d; I have yet to decide on your standing, I would say you are a Libertarian but I'm not sure which major political party you think is the lesser of two evils.
On a side-note, d; I have yet to decide on your standing, I would say you are a Libertarian but I'm not sure which major political party you think is the lesser of two evils.

Mostly I think the two majority parties are equally evil.

However I can identify with the Republican party because I was raised in a heavily Republican family. But I left the party over a decade ago. First as a Libertarian but I eventually decided they don't go far enough. Currently I'm a voluntarist or anarcho-capitalist, depending on which label you prefer.

The use of the Libertatis Æquilibritas symbol should have been a solid hint to that. :)
Aha, I see. I was unaware of the meaning of the symbol.

I can't really identify with that system, as far as I can tell its much too idealist. I can only assume that power would still be consolidated into the hands of a few via monopoly. Unless you call for the dissolution of all corporations, but still I can't help but feel that despite there being unrestricted competition on all sides one group would get the upper hand and there would be unrestricted growth of corporations. Then we'd end up with totalitarian corporate state. As far as I'm concerned it sounds even less practical than Marx's ideal anarchist communist state, which I believe to be horribly impractical.
Theres no such thing as an ideal society - No matter what we do there will always be problems - even most intelligent intellectuals will admit that, The aims more to find a system that's as close to that as we can get and ridiculous idealist models are a good way to change society.
