What sustainability means to me is everyone working together to create the whole. That is to say that everyone has a role, part, position that they need to play to create the masterpiece. If you step up a role or back someone needs to fill that position to re-create unity. As a whole its not replacement, its re-creation.
Thinking about pixels on a picture, one individual pixel is beautiful. It is individual, no two pixels are the same. They may be the same shape and color but each has an individual role in sustaining and maintaining the beauty of the entire picture.
If multiple pixels on the picture are fighting and stirring up the entire picture how can unity be accomplished to create the masterpiece? When the pixels settle down re-arraigning takes place we create a new masterpiece. Lets create a new masterpiece, its time for the pixels to settle down. In creating the new masterpiece i hope we will find that we have built a stronger, unified, un-broken masterpiece.
Who's with me? Take the pledge now...
If you are not against me, you are with me. If you are against me, please share your point of view as you are also a person and I recognize that. I will also share my point of view and we can find common ground to re-create the masterpiece.
I like how he thinks. Saying that being contained and neutral isn't enough, that we need to turn things around and influence change positively, now that truly is where we should be angled. But like you said, "sustainable is a step up from rampant psychotic global self-destruction", which is definitely where we are.
When I posted this there was a lot of tension and "bickering" going on here on the board, and within groups. It was an attempt to get people to think about what's really going on when we are disagreeing.
Sustainability. Argh, complex term to define. I agree very much with the vision you speak of, the musical term for this is cacophony, and although cacophony can be beautiful it is difficult to discern a true, unified message from the dozens (or in the case of humanity, billions) of separate voices.
I accept the pledge, however now that we have identified the disease, what is the cure? A disease without a cure is far worse than a cure without a disease, I'm sure we can agree. Purpose without action is as good as no action at all.
Disagreement is probably an even more complex term to "define". It can range from a slight difference from a fellow worker's opinion on the best sausage brand to full-blown wars of religious ideology as in the Crusades. What's really going on underneath though? It varies from person to person, as every human is a different and separate entity from the rest and therefore a blanket answer would be both unwise and ignorant (at least in my opinion). The important thing though is to recognize that when we disagree, it is less important to argue than to search for why we disagree and resolve to keep our seperate opinions and value the others'. This sort of agreement to disagree is easier said then done though, and when it come to powerful and heated topics such as religion, incredibly difficult to produce. Usually, I would recommend a moderator of some sort, without bias or preference for either side or viewpoint in such a case.
Of course, I'm always open to correction, improvements, concerns, applause, and free cookies.
it means keeping off of the razors edge. knowing that no mater what happens, you dont have to worry about any of your friends commiting suicide, or an artillary shell pumping through your kitchen window and killing your father. it means being able to go out at night without having to worry about having all of your organs ripped to shreds by gangsters in the city. I shouldnt have to go to the hospital every day to visit my best friend who is on life support. it means that no one should die without being old and happy, warm in your bed, surrounded by your family. and finding the comfort that they are secure and easy with your going. and knowing that your last thought is a good one, because what else do we have but our last thought???
Re-creation, yes. It's like a renaissance of daily actions? Sustainability, to me, involves understanding that what I do will have positive and/or negative consequences in my life and in others' lives. I need a higher power, like the Holy Spirit, to shine light into my everyday situations, so that I may have the strength and wisdom to choose what would produce life vs. what may produce death or be a product of death and destruction, or simply counter-productive. Being "lead by the Spirit" entails a lot more conscious everyday-life decisions for me. Some decisions just take some quick thoughts and common sense.. If sustainability means "to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs," then, what do i need to do right now? I need to work on a song. So, that's what i'm going to do now. Re-create myself in song, so that one day we can all sing it together?
There are many things we can do for sustainability. But what does sustainability truely mean to you?For me its a world in which the needs of the many are meet, not the needs of the few.According to UNICEF 25,000 children die every single day from preventable causes such as starvation and curable sicknesses.Yet they wont say why, which is because it is powerful corporations that will allow food to rot in hopes of selling it last minute to make a profit instead of giving it to the starving and because medicine in excess is sitting in wherehouses expiring because it cant be sold for profit.A sustainable world is one in which all people can live, even those born in 3rd world nations, you know 3rd world nations(the places we love to exploit for cheap labor but allow their people to senselessly die).
Cool, let's make the re-creation our recreation. We could start by ousting the warmongers and deceivers on capital hill. We should have folks that are more representative of the People rather than representing the all mighty dollar, bankers, corporations and other special intrests. Sustainability is not found in bank bailouts and trillion $ deficits.
