Jeff's "human plan" is full of interesting ideas and well worth the read.

As for organizations in your area, you may want to look into the who are the members of your local Libertarian party. While most people associate the libertarians with the right, there are also many members who come from backgrounds on the left. The Libertarian-Socialists and the Left-Libertarians may be just what you are looking for.
