I dunno..
Like everybody else, I was raving when he won..
But then I started thinking;
Just because Obama's the first black president to be voted in doesn't mean a thing..
Sure, it's a feat that he's the first..
But he's still running the USA.
And who knows; he could pull a complete 180 turn and f*ck up the economy even more..
Although, he's incredibly active in what he does..
The whole "taking part in the community" thing really got me on his side..
And he's already brought back a few troops. = ]
PERSONALLY; I WOULD'VE LOVE TO SEE RON PAUL MAKE IT THROUGH.
HE was a man BEYOND "change". Ron Paul was an individual working for a NEW-America.
It's just a shame the rest of American politics was working against him..
Still though; I promised myself to give Obama a good 4 - 6 months before I come to any conclusions about him.
I like what I'm seeing so far.. but you never know.
It does not end there. We must make sure he keeps his promises. He won because we wanted change. He offered change but will he deliver?
The republicans lost because they were content on keeping the status quo. It's funny if you look at an electoral map from Lincon's presidency. Loncoln, a republican won the exact opposite states that McCain won, well the states that existed at the time anyway. At that piont in time the republican party represented the future, now they remain in the past.
The problem with the republican party is that they made a deal with the devil when they adopted the beliefs of the religious right. They gained votes, but traditional (level headed) republicans like Ron Paul began to leave the party.
Also, Karl Rove style politics, did not work this time around, because Americans were better able to fact check via the internet than in 2000, & 2004. Any lies like "Obama is a muslim", were quickly put to rest by people seeking the truth instead of buying into the fearmongering of the far right.
I voted for Obama, but I hope to see a huge number of independents running against him in 2012. If he keeps his word he should have no problem winning again, but if he waivers he might lose the presidency.
I also think Obama's controversal decision to accept public funds, will only prove to help Independant cannidates in the future. As long as they are only reciving small sums of money from individuals i don't have a problem with politicians doing this to fund their campaigns.
Brian - Obama won cos he spent the most money ever on a presidential campaign, he used movie stars and the media services to push his message onto the brain-dead public who minds are run by the media. Watch this space, this guy is no saviour he is just your bog-standard american president. Corrupt and taking orders from those behind the scenes. I would love to be proven wrong, I hope he makes change for the better, but I wanna see some evidence before I take him outta the corruption box.
YES! i was waiting for someone to say something of the sort.
We are individuals and have individual thoughts and stances on everything, i think the republican/democrat thing needs to end, parties seem obsolete, we need to evolve to a more progressive system that sows less dissention and more unity, but for this to take place there needs to also be evolution in human conscience. this is essential, not only to what i proposed to to progress in any field.
The American gov't really has dupeped the people this time .... Just look at Obama's economic advisors.... they are memebers of the corperatocracy like the ceo of google. Obama isn't the savour of the people he's a corporate puppet like most politician. IF the election was fair why did RON PAUL get black balled in the media? THERE IS A WAR GOING TO FOR YOUR MIND> and most are losing. What change do you think obama is going to do? the only change is repub. to dem. and my question is WHATS THE DIFFERENCE>?????
Hey everyone, I'm from the UK and everyone here is stoked that Obama got the big job! I know a lot of people who went out to the US to campaign for him!! I stayed up all night to watch the results come in and was so excited!!
I have read a few of his books and really glad that you guys in the US finally get a president who understands the plight of the underdog! Watching Bush get in for a second term felt like i was watching a movie where the bad guy won!
your country can be really proud again and hopefully he can enact some policies that prove to the rest of the world that the US cares about their own people (healthcare for all) or other countries (Iraq, Afganistan, Iran etc) and possibly works alongside the UN to bring the suffering in Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan to an end - Its disgusting that our governments are standing by when children are dying.
I think... so far, so good. The time for victory laps and high fives is over though. Now we'll see who really is serious about making change in our country.
I have to say that that is something I am wondering too (on a personal level) 'cause my husband is supposed to be sent to Iraq in February for a year and if it could be shorter than that that'd be awesome (he's already been gone for over 2 months for pre-deployment training). Plus he's in the Army National Guard and I think sending the "national guard" to other countries isn't very intelligent (of course I'm a little biased).
