HR 1207: Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 is out of committe and headed to the full house.

According to the AP:

WASHINGTON — The House Financial Services Committee has voted to pull the curtain on the normally secretive Federal Reserve by subjecting the nation's central bank to a sweeping congressional audit.

The provision would direct the Government Accountability Office to examine transactions the Fed has undertaken to spur lending, stabilize banks and revive the economy.

OK, now is the time for all concerned citizens to act. Everyone should contact their congress-critter and let them know that we want the FED to be audit. We deserve to know where our money is going and what the people holding the reins are doing.

A representative government only works when the people know the facts.

Editted to add: Here is a bill text and as you can see the bill has 313 co-sponsers. Given that you only need 218 to get 50%, this bill should sail through the House. Don't forget to call/email your senators to get them on board.
