Obama? or the nation as a whole. I feel that we as country can use the ideology of a youthful inteligent president and build and form together. it is the same as always, no one man can really change the world by himself, at least not in 4 years.
Don't mind Jeff, he is a raging pothead with a love affair with his own poison. To be honest, I think Obama is up to the task, he has the right mentality of pushing back to the progressive movement, allowing unionization, increasing the rights of the people in their own economic future and making college affordable to the masses. With help from the people he can do it all.
I think he meant like in terms of "pick your poison" - Coffee is my poison. ;)
When did he say he was going to end the war ASAP? Which war, the global war on terror, or one of the local engagements?
To answer my own question: Yes, Iraq:

At the Web site, www.change.gov, Obama said one of his first policy directives will be to give military commanders and the Secretary of Defense "a new mission in Iraq: ending the war." More than 4,100 U.S. soldiers and, by some estimates, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed since Bush invaded Iraq in March 2003. Besides setting a timetable for withdrawing U.S. combat forces from Iraq, Obama still foresees a limited U.S. military presence.

"Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al-Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel," his statement read.

"They will not build permanent bases in Iraq, but will continue efforts to train and support the Iraqi security forces as long as Iraqi leaders move toward political reconciliation and away from sectarianism."

Afghanistan will get stepped up, though:

"The Afghan government needs to do more. But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan. And I believe this has to be our central focus, the central front, on our battle against terrorism," Obama said Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation." "I think one of the biggest mistakes we've made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq," he said.

Obama said troop levels must increase in Afghanistan.

"For at least a year now, I have called for two additional brigades, perhaps three," he told CBS. "I think it's very important that we unify command more effectively to coordinate our military activities. But military alone is not going to be enough."

The Global War on Terror (GWOT) will never end. It's the perfect storm for the military industrial complex. It is exactly what Smedley Butler warned us about in his pamphlet War is a Racket.

Since we can never beat the enemy there will be no end to the escalations. It's almost like the perpetual wars in George Orwell's 1984 between Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia but without the need to change opponents every so often. So there are fewer lies to catch the government in. It is the perfect tool to control the peoples minds and to slowly take away their freedoms (Patriot Act, wire tapping, etc) without raising any objections.
Obama is not a savior. He & his cabinet arent any different than the present one. A different name & different face doesnt actually provide the differences needed to change anything. WE, nor they can change the world. Its up to YOU & I to change OUR lives.
DITTO!

The sooner we realize that we alone are responsible for our own health, and happiness the sooner we will achieve it.
KEEP YOUR FIST UP! LET US LEARN TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR PLIGHT, ONCE WE CAN ADMIT THAT WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN THIS LIFE, THE SOONER WE MAY UNDERSTAND HOW TO FIX IT.)
Obama thinks differently and he has a good team around him. We'll have to wait to cast judgement on his actions. I think anyone predicting he's going to fail at A,B and C or Z is just being overly negative. The same people predicted that he'd never be "allowed" to be elected. One thing is for sure, he's already changed the game and there is a new energy that the old guard in Washington won't be able to control. Let's give him a fair shot and see where we are as a nation in a year.

It's also funny how we live in this microwave society, where everything has to be NOW and there' no patience. My kids complain that macaroni and cheese takes 15 minutes to make when they can have Easy Mac in 2 minutes in the microwave.
