nice well put.
acceptance is taught thru family an life lessons
I agree with bnt4 and his views of ownership. Morals and values should be established by the parents, but honestly I don't know how you can control all of what your kid feels and thinks unless you are with them 24 hours a day guiding them to how each social experience should be viewed. Of course we can attempt to talk to them and keep open communication, but what about the things that they don't tell you... I don't know, let s discuss.
In regards to TShadow's post he is wrong to assume that they teach acceptance in the boy scouts, as Terrychilders said the boy scouts "...develops the core values of citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health and fitness, honesty, perseverance, positive attitude, resourcefulness, respect and responsibility" which are all important values. It just kind of sucks that the young man who may be an atheist, agnostic or have a different sexual orientation cannot learn from and be molded by this government supported entity.
it is still ridicoulous isnt it? as far as im concerned, acceptance is one of the most iportant values there is.
Just got back from my first camping trip with the bsa and my son. The rule towards gays is no gay adults as scout leaders and I didnt heard anything about gay children.
The values we teach Z hopefully stay with him when I'm not there I know no one can be with anyone 24/7 but the good voice of reason should always be with everyone 24/7.
Our troop is a handicapped troop and with kids with some serious social issues. I observed the other "normal" scouts be helpful and patient with our group and at times I could see the frustration in certain situations but all in all it was well. I"m not a hovering parent I prefer to observe from affair as to see how kids or adults really react. All in all it was a great week and I think there's bigger groups to worry about than the BSA
what about religions?
as stated they are a lot more like private groups/clubs..and each one is different depending on the scoutmasters and cub leaders they'll be run however they want..i actually had a bad experience in the boy scouts...lack of respect to all the younger kids from the older ones and the adults..oh and i believe a very bad decision was made to allow the scouts parents to come on trips as assistant scoutmasters.because they were the main ones abusing power and..flat out being mean to little kids...I'm not surprised it has come to this..I left knowing it was heading in the wrong direction although i wish i could have finished i really do..but my frail young mind at the time could not stand the abuse..
whats an agnostic?
thats not fair.
an agnostic is someone who is undecided about religion
actually thats not true....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnostic

Most of us fall under this...the view of those who do not claim to know existence of God or gods, but still believe in such an existence
I would take it as a complement to be denied membership to the "boy" scouts. They can have their group as far as im concerned.............lol.
yeah thats completely rediculous, let alone unconstitutional. whatever happened to religious freedom. I am agnostic, does that make me a bad person? i guess this is where society is headed. f*** boyscouts, full of judgemental, discriminatory, rednecks. Im sorry of your offended by that term but is it that far from the truth?
oh and on agnosticism? in my opinion everybody on this earth is agnostic.
my reasoning. the definition of agnosticism is is undecided and not sure of the existence of god.
Does anybody truly know the existence of god? There will be many people to claim they know but they don't truly know, no one does. You can "believe" there is a god, just as you can believe ghosts exist. You can never really prove either exist
